FAQ
-
Can we enter as a team?
Yes. Collaboration is welcome. You can enter as a team but the prize money will remain the same as for an individual and will be awarded per team entry not per person.
We would recommend working with people you trust and aim to divide your work fairly. You may wish to develop a plan to allocate roles, divide time and ensure your listening to the ideas of your whole team.
Consider the number in your group, we would not recommend more than 4 for effective team working.
-
Can I submit a digital artwork?
Yes. Just remember all your content must be original and you can not paste in images generated by others. Also bear in mind your work will need to be painted onto panels for the final installation.
-
Can I use AI to generate my design?
No. Please use this as an opportunity to explore your own art and ideas. If you want to use AI to help you research your environmental theme or art concepts that is great, as long as the design work you enter is original.
-
How detailed is a Concept Sketch?
Your concept sketch should be the best representation you can make of your idea and will used to shortlist our final 3 designs. However, this sketch does not have to be your final design and you will continue to work on it if selected to more fully develop your piece for the final.
As an entrant you will have access to 3 mentoring sessions with Dan which will also help clarify how to approach your sketch and application.
-
What happens if I don't get selected for the final 3?
Congratulations - you've just given yourself an amazing portfolio piece. You will receive feedback on your entry and in addition, your work will be shown with all the other entrants in a EnviroART exhibition.
-
Does everyoneone have to submit previous artwork if working in a team?
No. Your team should submit a few examples of previous work that represent your personal style as an artist or in this case as a team, and lend context to your design style.
-
Can I bring non LHS students into my team?
No. On this occasion submissions are for LHS students only, but you may bring non LHS students to the Launch event at the Library, exhibitions and mural opening.
We want to engage our community so if you know people who are enthusiastic then let's create momentum for future community events. Reach out with your ideas.
-
Do I have to attend all the mentor sessions? Are they Mandatory?
Mentor sessions are not mandatory. We strongly suggest you attend because this art residency is a unique opportunity for development, feedback and access to the experience of a professional public artist. Each workshop will be up to 2hours, each focusing on a different aspect of project work.
The LEC has sponsored the residency so that you have access to a portfolio development opportunity, irrespective of if you are the final winner.
-
What is an RFP?
RFP stands for Request for Proposal and is an industry standard that organizations use for inviting artists to apply for Public Art Projects.
This competition has adopted this format so that you can develop real world experience for your portfolio. Your Mentor, Dan Fenelon, will offer a workshop on how to respond to an RFP to support your submission.
-
Does our whole team have to register or just a team rep?
Yes please register your whole team individually so you can attend events and mentor sessions as individuals if you wish. It will also help us to understand attendance numbers to prepare for events.
When you submit your design it will be as a team listing all the names of those who contributed.
-
How do I submit my entry?

-
Can I submit without uploading my design?
No, you must submit a copy, scan, photo digitally BUT you can also provide a hard copy of your work as well by handing it in to Mr Jay. The upload site is convenient as it enables us to share work more easily within the judging panel.

-
Can I use Canva?
Please do not use Canva elements, templates or design layouts for this project as they are the work of others. If you are creating original content you can use tools in the program that support that.
-
IS comparison really the thief of joy?
Yes. This is your project, trust yourself. Variety is the spice of life and art is personal and powerful - create something that feels real and important to you and enjoy expressing yourself. Sure there's a winner but it's your journey to enjoy. Some people like Rembrandt, some people like Andy Warhol, some people pay for a banana duck taped to the wall! Be yourself.
